This Saturday we welcome in Snips and DJ Soul. Two of the finest selectors in NYC for a night of all vinyl selections not to be missed!
SNIPS:
Snips is the founder of Barbershop Records and co founder of Livin' Proof, a veteran of the UK Hip Hop scene with 25 years experience as one of the cities most prolific club Djs as well as 5 years hosting a weekly show on Londons Kiss FM. Snips has held down residencies across the capital consistently as well as Djing for Hip Hops elite including Kanye West, Mos Def & Freddie Gibbs. Now residing permanently in NYC, Snips is equally as comfortable playing alongside NYC Heavyweights Stretch Armstrong, Dj Spinna and Moma as he was UK staples Norman Jay, Benji B and Shortee Blitz. While maintaining a presence between the two cities Snips regularly travels globally headlining shows in Dubai, Croatia, France, Hong Kong, Ibiza & Sydney to name just a few places. With 10 years worth of transatlantic production credits across Hip Hop's underground (Sean Price, Conway, SAS, Skyzoo), 2018 saw Snips emerge as a budding solo artist, releasing a slew of projects on his own label "Barbershop Records" fusing the production styles of Hip Hop, Reggae, House, Soul, Jazz and Funk in the same fashion he's known for as a DJ.
DJ SOUL:
NYC’s DJ Soul has built an iconic career as a mixologist, captivating tastemakers, club socialites, and elite celebrities worldwide. An extended member of the Okayplayer family, his Assorted Donuts mixtape earned a 2007 Vibe x VH-1 Mixtape of the Year nomination and achieved over 100,000 downloads, cementing its status as a landmark online release.
Renowned for his versatility, DJ Soul has played exclusive events for luminaries like Diddy, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Derek Jeter, and Usher, as well as brands like Nike, Louis Vuitton, Sony, and Adidas. His journey began in 1992, inspired by legends like Kid Capri and Red Alert, when his father gifted him turntables and a mixer. Self-taught in mixing and scratching, Soul started selling mixtapes across NYC and spinning house and college parties, quickly gaining recognition across the Tri-State area.
By 1998, DJ Soul had secured a role at Rawkus Records, deepening his connections with NYC’s music scene and collaborators like Mark Ronson and Fat Beats. His expertise extended into editorial roles at Mass Appeal and Complex Magazine, further solidifying his cultural influence. In 2003, he became the inaugural DJ for Chappelle’s Show, and in 2005, Diddy tapped him for projects including the MTV Music Awards.
With acclaimed mixtapes, appearances on Shade 45, and the honor of DJing multiple New York Knicks games at Madison Square Garden, DJ Soul continues to blend music, fashion, and culture into unforgettable experiences.
